The Board
of Directors consists of
volunteers from the local
community who are responsible
for the ongoing operation of the
program. Their
major tasks are to establish and
enforce program policies and rules, raise all funds necessary to operate the program, provide and maintain the
ABC house, select and oversee
the Resident Directors and
Resident Tutor(s), select the
students, and provide the
necessary support and resources to meet the students' needs.
The work of the
program is divided among several
committees of the Board, and all Board members
serve on at least one committee.
Committees include Academics,
Student Affairs, House & Van,
Host Family,
Health, College Selection,
and New Student Selection.
The Resident
Directors are generally a
married couple who have had
experience working with
teenagers and group living
situations. They manage the day
to day operation of the house,
enforce the program policies and
rules, and provide a parental
presence for the students. In
return, the Resident Directors
receive room, board, and a small
monthly stipend.
The Resident
Tutor is a person or couple with an
aptitude for study skills and
academics as well as a strong interest
in education. The Resident
Tutor's primary duty is to
oversee the students' academic
progress and monitor nightly
study hours. The Resident Tutor
also receives room, board, and a
small monthly stipend.
A
part-time paid cook prepares
weekday dinners and works with the Resident Directors
to plan and buy food for the
remaining meals.
The
Resident Directors and Resident Tutor work
together to create a family
atmosphere and an inviting home for
the students.
