Students are selected
each year from more than
2,500 applications received
at the national office in
New York City. Students are
recruited in their
communities by guidance
counselors, principals,
clergy, and social workers.
In addition to their
academic and other talents,
ABC students are chosen for
their maturity, personality,
and leadership potential.
Most of the Simsbury
students come from the New
York City area, although
some have come from as far
away as Raleigh and Chicago.
Much is expected
of the students once they
get to Simsbury. In addition
to following the rules of
the program, contributing to
the house, and maintaining
the academic standards of
the program, they are
required to become active
members of the Simsbury
community. ABC students
participate in sports, music
and theater programs, school
clubs, and community service
activities.
Administrators, counselors,
and teachers at Simsbury
High School acknowledge,
time and again, the positive
impact ABC students have
within the school. Everyone
benefits from interaction
with individuals from
diverse backgrounds, and all
are better prepared for an
increasingly multiethnic and
multicultural society.
